Work Hard, Play Hard & Be Kind

Hey guys,

Happy Monday – Hope you had a lovely weekend! Something about the moon (so I’m told) changed last week and a lot of exciting things happened! For one I hosted a SHE Unleashed Workshop, the first in a while, and it was amazing to step back into it! All courtesy of Birchbox really! They’ve recently launched a collaboration with Oliver Bonas (if you’re obsessed with cool prints too, search no more) and the theme is Work Hard, Play Hard & Be Kind.

Which is pretty much my current mantra, and mantras are one of my favourite parts of the workshop! I use them on a daily basis, whether in my head or in my notebook – they’re a huge boost and always pick me up when I feel down. I like to call myself a mantra mixologist; words, just like colours resonate with us differently depending on our mood. So I love to mix and match words that I know have a strong impact on me. Calling myself smart, valid or limitless, for example, always give me a massive boost. Especially when I doubt myself.

One that I really love using at the moment is very close to Birchbox’s, “more love, less judgment”. When I have too much on (be it at work, or at home), stress and anxiety kick in, I get nervous and irritable. Reminding myself these words help me snap out of it; more love because you’ll only get happier if you have a kinder attitude, and less judgment because it makes you more patient with people around you. It pushes you to look at things from their angle, but it also makes sure you keep an open mind, and you definitely need an open mind if you want to go places.

Work Hard, Play Hard & Be Kind is my idea of a good balance!

I find sanity underrated! With this current trend of being constantly busy, hustling, girlbossing and what not, we forget to look after ourselves or we feel too guilty too.

Which I’ve found out is super silly because you’re your only capital, if you use it up what happens, eh? Last Friday I came up with a new routine, #SelfCareFriday, explaining on my InstaStories how I had decided to do something for myself every Friday, and got my eyebrows done (3rd time in 2 years, I’m known for bad eyebrows) and got a shellac mani/pedi for the first time! The response in my DMs was huge, with lots of you jumping in and tagging/sending me photos of you getting pampered! I loved that!

No wonder I raided this Birchbox, it’s like the coolest looking self-care kit! Love this month’s selection, and I must admit my ultimate fave is by far this Arrow lip balm! I am obsessed!! My lips get so dry, and ashy looking lips are not such a good look. I’m on the hunt for the perfect nude lipstick but really what I want is to look like I have none on, just a natural glowy finish. And I found it!! This balm adjusts to the pH to create the perfect just-for-you hue. I’m obsessed with it, and it’s really hydrating – definitely need to get some more! I had heard a lot about DrPawPaw so it was very nice to get to try it, you really can use it for everything! The IcyMagic Instant Eye Contour Energiser has to be my second fave, the cooling effect feels so good in the morning!

As much as it might sound a bit Koo-Koo, I think mantras can be very powerful! Do you guys use them? What does Work Hard, Play Hard & Be Kind represent to you?

Loved reading this article! Something about empowering myself on sluggish days always gives me a boost and gets me going. I too, could use a good eyebrow plucking now and again but with work, kids, and life in general, the one person I forget about is me. Self care Fridays is my new motto!
